Man and van by the job
The smaller end of the work — a single room, a student move, a marketplace collection, or one heavy thing that will not go in a car. Two people and a van, booked by the job.
Not every move needs a Luton and four people. A good share of what we are asked for is smaller: somebody leaving a shared house, a one-bed being emptied for a sale, a single heavy item that needs two people and a tail lift.
Man and van covers it. Same crews, same blankets, same care with the door frames — just a smaller vehicle and a shorter day.
What it suits
- Flat and bedsit moves, locally or between towns
- Single rooms — a lodger moving on, a grown-up child moving out
- Student moves at the start and end of term
- One awkward item: a sofa, a fridge-freezer, an upright piano, a workbench
- Collections from warehouses, showrooms, auction rooms and marketplace sellers
- Clearing a storage unit into a new address
What it does not suit
A well-filled one-bed is about the ceiling. Beyond that you are paying for two trips and a long afternoon, which costs more than a proper house removal and takes longer to finish. Describe the load honestly when you write in and we will tell you which side of that line you are on — it saves everybody an afternoon.
The awkward part
Small loads come out of the hardest buildings more often than large ones do. Fourth-floor walk-ups. Flats above shops with a single narrow street door onto a busy pavement. Communal entrances that need a fob and somebody to hold them open.
So we ask the same short list every time: which floor, is there a lift, how wide is the stairwell turn, and where can the van legally stand. Two minutes at the booking stage prevents nearly every problem that shows up on the day. More on that on flat removals.
Booking
Both addresses, a list or a photograph of what is going, and the floor at each end. If it is straightforward we can usually confirm without visiting. Weekends and month-ends go first; a weekday slot is easier to get and easier to park.

Questions
Is it one person or two?
Two, on anything with furniture in it. One person and a van is fine for cartons and nothing else. A sofa down three flights is not a one-person job, and pretending otherwise is how furniture and people get damaged.
Do you carry, or just drive?
Carry. That is the job. If you genuinely only want a vehicle and a driver while you do the lifting, say so and we will price it that way — but it is not what most people mean when they ask.
Do you do single items?
Yes. A wardrobe across town, a sofa bought off a marketplace listing, an upright piano, a workshop bench. Send both addresses and a photograph and we will tell you what it needs.
Can you do a student move?
Regularly, and the ends of terms are the busy weeks. A room and a few boxes is quick once the floor and the parking are known. Book ahead if you can — late June and September fill first.
When does it stop being the cheap option?
Around a well-filled one-bed. Past that it becomes two trips and a long day, which costs more than a proper removal and takes longer. We will tell you when you have crossed that line rather than quietly taking the booking.
